Black Swamp Air Force

Twenty-second Annual

North Coast Stunt Kite Games

July 18, 19,& 20, 2008

Maumee Bay State Park - Oregon, Ohio

The North Coast Stunt Kite Games were originated twenty-two short years ago by Uncle Wilbur a.k.a.Steve Webber, the second Commandant of the Black Swamp Air Force. The guiding principle of the North Coast Stunt Kite Games was "the de-evolution of a kite festival"; a way for kite fliers (competitors and fun fliers) and non-flying public to get together to relax, fly, learn from each other without any expectations being made of them except to have a good time. It was intended to be an event where everyone could participate to the extent that they wanted, versus a kite competition (which Uncle Wilbur thought to be an oxymoron), where the non-competitors were relegated to spectator status. The third weekend in July was chosen because it did not conflict with any other area kite events or competitions.

The Twenty-second Annual North Coast Stunt Kite Games will start on Friday evening July 18th. The tent and sound system are set up in the afternoon and there is traditionally a potluck supper back the in campground. The usual fare being chili, hot dogs, and whatever anyone can think of to fit enhance that basic kiter chow. Given the right mood and weather, there is the potential for a night fly either back in the campground, on the beach, or on the flying field

Saturday, July 19th, will be the first full day of the Twenty-second North Coast Stunt Kite Games, which will have flying, kite demonstrations of all varieties, and local kite vendors. Everyone is encouraged to participate and have fun, with the only request being to be considerate of others and use common sense on the flying fields. In the evening, a catered dinner with limited meal tickets for sale on a first come first serve basis. After dinner, the kite auction begins, which is a happening and fun is had by all! The kite auction, is what actually pays the bills incurred to put on the North Coast Stunt Kite Games. Once the excitement of the auction has warn off, there is usually a night fly back in the campground with alternate sites being the beach or the flying field

Sunday, July 20th is the final day of this year's North Coast Stunt Kite Games, is more of the same: fun, flying, and relaxation that usually lasts (weather dependent) until the late afternoon.
